What Does The Holy Spirit Do
For The Born Again Believer?


 
The Holy Spirit possesses a dynamite-like power that works within a believer to blast out anything that is unlike God.

The Holy Spirit uses His power to break us so that He might transform our life. The more we get self out of the way and yield our will to His, the more He is able to pour Himself out through us to others, and the more He is able to transform our lives. We are merely the conduits, the channels through which God's power moves.

If we are open and receptive to the Holy Spirit, the following is what He can do for and through us:

  • He Intercedes On Our Behalf, Helps Us In Our Weaknesses, And Teaches Us How To Pray.

Romans 8:26-27 (NIV) says In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”

  • He Searches Our Hearts.

Romans 8:27 (NIV) says And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”

  • He Talks To And Through Us.

Matthew 10:20 (NIV) says for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”

  • He Teaches Us All Things, Reminds Us Of Scripture And Guides Us Into Truth.

John 14:26 (NIV) says But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

1 Corinthians 2:10-11 (NIV) says these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”

  • He Transforms Us Into A New Creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) says Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

  • He Gives Us His Fruit.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) says But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

  • He Gives Us Gifts For Ministry.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (NIV) says There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”

  • He Gives Us Power To Live Godly Lives.

We may look the same on the outside, but inside we are a new creation, we are born again, with the Holy Spirit and His power.

Ephesians 1:18-20 (NIV) says I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 3:16 (NIV) says I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.”

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) says Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”

We can apply the benefits and power of the Spirit in our own lives, understanding what the Spirit does in our life.

  • He Gives Us Boldness To Witness.

Acts 1:8 (NIV) says “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 4:29 (NIV) says Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.”

Acts 4:31 (NIV) says After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”

NOTE: The salvation of souls is a supernatural work only made possible by the Holy Spirit’s power at work in the world.

  • He Gives Us Wisdom And Revelation.

Ephesians 1:17-18 (NIV) says I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.”

IMPORTANT NOTE: For many of us, the potential which dwells within us, is never realized because we will not take God at His word.

2. FIRE

Exodus 3:2 (KJV) says And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”

Acts 2:3 (KJV) says And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.”

3. WIND

Acts 2:2 (KJV) says And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.”

4. OIL

Psalm 45:7 (KJV) says Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”
