I’m A New Believer (Christian) – What Should I Do Now?

1. TAKE OFF THE OLD AND PUT ON THE NEW!

2 Corinthians 5:17 says “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

Living as Children of Light: Ephesians 4:17-24 says “17 With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against Him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.

20 But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from Him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”

2. TELL SOMEONE YOU ARE SAVED

God doesn’t have or want any closet Christians. To affirm your salvation, it is important that you tell someone you are saved – that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and made Him the Lord of your life. If you haven’t already done so, you can easily tell us by going to our “New Believers” Page.

3. ACQUIRE A BIBLE AND READ IT EVERY DAY

The Bible is your spiritual food and you need it every day. Our favorite Bible is the Expositor’s Study Bible. We highly recommend this Bible for new believers because it contains notes on practically every scripture verse that explains the Who, What, Where, When and How and has been designed to help you truly understand what you are reading. You can obtain one at https://shopjsm.org/c-36-bibles.aspx.

4. FIND AND ATTEND A BIBLE BELIEVING,
BIBLE TEACHING CHURCH

Find and regularly attend a Bible Believing, Bible Teaching Church or Assembly where you can be discipled, taught and fed the Word, be baptized, be loved and encouraged, and grow in your new Christian Walk with the Lord.

5. BE BAPTIZED

Although baptism is closely associated with salvation, it is not a requirement to be saved.

Romans 6:4 says We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

As a new believer in Jesus Christ, you should desire to be baptized because baptism is an act of obedience and illustrates your identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.

By being baptized, you are making a public profession of the inward change in your heart. Your submersion in the water represents your death to sin and your emerging from the water represents your cleansed, holy life that follows your salvation.

So, as soon as possible, be baptized. You'll be very glad you did!

6. FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER BELIEVERS

1 Corinthians 14:26 says “What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.”

Hebrews 10:24-25 says “and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.”

Note: The above scriptures clearly show the importance of regular fellowship with other believers.

7. BE A WITNESS

Proverbs 11:30 Tells Us "He Who Wins Souls Is Wise!" And Matthew 28:16-20 Tells Us That We Are All Commanded To Help Build The Kingdom Of God By Being A Witness For Jesus Christ. Let's all be wise!

Please read our post Is Your Light Shining Brightly? The Lord wants you to be a living witness.

But, if you are too timid or don’t feel you know enough to witness to others, we have made it very easy for you to be a witness.

Simply go to our "Tell Others" Page and use the Free Witnessing Tool that has been provided.

8. PRAISE AND THANK GOD EVERY DAY

God wants to spend time with you and wants to hear from you every day.

Start Your Day With Him by Reading your Bible for a few minutes, listening to worship music, and thanking Him for giving you another day to live.

Pray intentionally and tell Him the things that you are going through or need help with and all the things you are thankful for.

Then, turn all Your Complaints Into Thanks and give Him praise.

God has given you life and is deserving of all your praise. You are truly blessed! Welcome to the family.
