I
was raised to have a good work ethic, do all you can without asking,
and by all means loving your neighbor as you love yourself.
I
grew up in a time when many fathers believed it was important to
raise strong sons. My brother, Ervin is the oldest and I, the first
girl am next to him, then came a bunch (6 more SONS) after me.
Therefore,
I caught all the man teachings being passed down from father to sons.
Since daddy was a carpenter, we learned how to build: using a hammer
and nails, plumbing, fixing broken things, paint, how to wall paper
and of course, the worst one of all: electricity. (I got enough
stings to leave that alone).
You
name it, he taught it to us, and I’m thankful for the legacy that
was passed on.
Living
in the world we live in, it can become easy to strive: (devoting
serious effort or energy, quarreling, contending, and fighting) to
keep up with the Jones’s.
Always
reaching for more: Houses, new cars, the latest gadgets, etc. It was
like striving to get, striving to achieve, striving…but somewhere,
somehow, I grew weary of the continuous circle.
The
Teacher in me (Holy Spirit) was teaching me to trust Him, not myself.
Wait on the Lord, not I can do it all by myself. Slow down-stop going
so fast, I will show you how to get ahead. Be still!
Then
came the revelation: It’s not in trying, but in trusting, it’s
not in running, but in resting, it’s not in wondering, but in
praying, that we find the strength of the Lord.
There
is a new strength that I have found and it’s in resting in Him.
Isaiah 30:15 declares: This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One
of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in
quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.
That
TV commercial ( I can bring home the bacon –da-da-da--fry it up in
a pan) …I let it go!!!.
For
a long time, I thought I had to do it the only way I knew, but as I
sat at His feet, I began to get it--- there is peace and rest. Make
room for Him. Find a quiet place without the noise. let His Presence
bring you rest.
